Trigs Humour

A selection of pieces that embody Trig’s humour. Some jokes are immediate, others take a moment. They all create a laugh or a grin once the idea lands, often as soon as the title is heard. These works sit alongside the main collections, using the same materials with a more playful intent.

Intel ‘Inside’

Small-size work · 2011

Spray Paint · Sand

60 × 60 cm · <5 kg

The idea began with a red square on a black background, seen in a high-end interiors shop. I couldn’t afford it, but I kept thinking about it. With almost no budget I made my own version: old wood reworked into a frame, stretched fabric painted black, and sand from the river at the bottom of my garden to give the surface a texture the original didn’t have.

That texture evolved into an embossed surface, first tested on a different piece. Once the image could sit inside the canvas rather than on it, the Intel logo followed, inspired by one of their adverts. The familiar oval is formed in painted sand and only becomes clear as light moves across the room.

It still hangs in my office. Years later I still walk past it with the Intel ‘bong’ — composed by Walter Werzowa — playing in my head, sometimes out loud.
